Q: When did you get into electronic music and what made you decide to become a Dj?

I first became interested in electronic music when I first heard Prodigy. I first saw them on MTV with their music video Breathe and have been hooked ever since. I have been Djing since 2004. Playing music helps me escape from reality while providing a great atmosphere for people to have fun in. I hope to be playing out for years to come.

Q: What genres do you play and what others do you have an interest in?

I Play Breakbeats right now but have played a variety of other genres including Hard energy, Hard style, Funky House, and Dub Step. I like playing Breatbeats because its kind of like the best of all worlds in electronic music. You can play funky jazzy breaks, or switch over to a darker harder break. It’s nice to have the option to be versatile with the music you play.

Q: For those not familiar with your style, how best could you describe it?

I would best describe my style as a in your face pumpin sound that will make you want to get up and dance. I tend to play more of a harder style when I play out, but often find myself playing more of a progressive sound when I’m by myself or sometimes when I’m playing late at an outdoor show.

Q: What are your latest accomplishments as a DJ?

My latest accomplishments as a DJ has been setting up my own studio where I can really work on some new sounds and tricks with mixing. I have found myself learning a lot of new things with better technology that really can make a difference when trying to deliver a sound.

Q: What is or was your greatest accomplishment?

My greatest accomplishment so far has been playing before A-10 and Ill-d the DJ (who I think is one of the most under rated DJ’s in the Bay). I thought that this was a big accomplishment because I look up to these DJ’s and loved to see both of them going crazy to my set.

Q: MP3, CD or Vinyl and why?

I used to play Vinyl but like most DJ’s now I have switched to Serato mainly because of the ease it is to carry 10000 songs with you that weigh under 5 pounds. I think that I will eventually move to CD’s because of the technical difficulties with playing on Serato.

Q: What's the one track that never leaves your record bag or cd case?

Since I play on Serato there isn’t really any song that leaves my computer or flash drive so I always have all my tracks with me all the time.

Q: Are there any projects your working on to look forward to in the next year?

I am looking forward to making a new Compilation where I can hopefully get published and out to more people.

Q: Who are your favorite Producers and or Dj’s that you listen to, play or have been influenced by and why?

I have a lot of DJ’s and Producers that I love to listen to and play but some of my favorite would include: DJ Icey, Kieth MacKenzie, DJ Z-Trip, Stanton Warriors, and even some hip hop DJ’s like DJ Babu.

Q: If you could open for anyone who would it be, and if you could play anywhere, where would it be?

I think that it would be an honor for me to open for DJ Z-Trip. I got the chance to see him play at the Beach at the Grand Sierra Resort and he definitely blew my mind. To date I think that he is the greatest turntablist I have ever seen.

Q: Have you noticed a decline in attendance at events you’ve played, and do you think it can be attributed to a possible loss of interest in EDM?

I have noticed that crowds seem to fluctuate, at least in Reno , quite a bit. One show there will be huge headliners with 50 people that show up and then the next weekend there will be a bunch of DJ’s playing that aren’t really that known and there will bee 600+. It’s always tough to judge but overall I have been happy with the turnout that I have seen.

Q: Any suggestions for other artists or promoters, either up and coming or just in gene ral?

This is a big deal for me because I am all about the music and not about the fame and fortune. Promoters I feel are way to wrapped up in making a buck than throwing a good show. I think that a great party speaks louder to people than throwing an average show and making money. For the upcoming DJ’s stay true to yourself and the music, I think that whoever is a DJ plays for a reason and shouldn’t stray away from that.

Q: Anything you would like to add or get off your chest?

I would like to thank everyone who has been there to support me and has given me the time to play for them and show them what I’m about.

Thank you,

Tommy Schriber
